MCD to install statute in Town Hall of Ex. Mayor Shanti Desai

New Delhi, 17th Feb 2012: Mayor of Delhi Prof. Rajni Abbi accepted Delhi Study Group demand for MCD to put up a statute of Ex. Mayor of Delhi Late Shri. Shanti Desai in Town Hall, Chandni Chowk, Municipal Corporation of Delhi Complex. She also announced that Nigam Rangshala auditorium located in the heritage town hall building shall be renamed as “Shanti Desai Memorial Hall”.

Mr. Vijay Jolly President Delhi Study Group had made a public demand for Shanti Desai burst at a meeting attended by Former Mayor Shri. Kedar Nath Sahani, current Mayor Prof. Rajni Abbi and MCD Leader of the House Shri. Subhash Arya in Nigam Rangshala yesterday. This program was organized to commemorate the 80th birth anniversary of Late Leader Shri. Shanti Desai. It may be recalled that Late Desai was Chairman Standing Committee for 3 years and served as the Mayor of Delhi for two years.

25 Sewing machines to widows and 4 tricycles to handicapped were also distributed by MCD Councilors namely Dr. Mahendra Nagpal, Smt. Mudita Gupta, O.P. Sharda, Mool Chand Sharma, Smt. Savita Gupta, Smt. Rajesh Yadav etc. on the occasion. Ex. Delhi MLA Prof. P.K. Chandla also shared his close association with the late leader.

दिल्ली नगर निगम टॉऊन हॉल में
पूर्व महापौर शांति देसाई की प्रतीमा लगेेगी

नई दिल्ली, 17 फरवरी, 2012: दिल्ली स्ट्डी ग्रुप की मॉग को स्वीकार करते हुए दिल्ली की महापौर प्रो0 रजनी अब्बी ने दिल्ली नगर निगम टॉऊन हॉल में पूर्व महापौर स्व0 शांति देसाई की प्रतिमा लगाने की सार्वजनिक घोषणा की। इसके साथ उन्होंने ऐतिहासिक टॉऊन हॉल भवन में स्थित निगम रंगशाला का नामकरण कर उसे ‘‘शांति देसाई स्मारक सभागार’’ घोषित भी किया।

ज्ञात रहे दिल्ली स्ट्डी ग्रुप अध्यक्ष श्री विजय जौली ने कल टाऊन हॉल के निगम रंगशाला में आयोजित कार्यक्रम में दिल्ली के पूर्व महापौर श्री केदारनाथ सहानी, महापौर प्रो0 रजनी अब्बी व नेता सदन की गरीमामयी उपस्थिति में यह मॉग उठाई थी। यह कार्यक्रम स्व0 शांति देसाई की 80वीं जयंती के उपलक्ष्य में आयोजित किया गया था। ज्ञात रहे शांति देसाई 3 वर्षों तक स्थायी समिति के अध्यक्ष रहे। तथा महापौर के पद पर दो बार आसीन हुए।

इस अवसर पर विधवाओं को 25 सिलाई की मशीनें व विकलॉगों को 4 ट्रई साईकल भी भेंट किये गये। भेंटकर्ताओं में निगम पार्षद सर्वश्री डा. महेन्द्र नागपाल, श्रीमती मुदिता गुप्ता, ओपी शारदा, मूलचन्द शर्मा, श्रीमती सविता गुप्ता, श्रीमती राजेश यादव आदि सम्मिलित हुए। इस अवसर पर पूर्व विधायक प्रो0 पी0के0 चाण्डला ने भी उपस्थित जनसमूह को संबोधित किया।

कार्यक्रम का संचालन दिल्ली स्ट्डी ग्रुप उपाध्यक्ष श्री गोपाल गर्ग ने किया।
